Reviewing working practice
Some notes on ideas which have been brewing for some time:
Assessor's comments
Burnout
Ratio of facilitators to researchers
Use of technology/ functions in platforms (FirstClass, Plone, netmail, modseat)
Open discussion/online dialogue (learning sets, peer review, workshops, main and sub-communities)
Individual email / community (FC mail, external mail)
Benefits to researchers (multiple perspectives) and facilitators (workload)
My aims
Show how facilitators have changed their own practice to relieve pressure
Show how policies adopted at Cohort/whole team level have had an impact (netmail)
Discuss impact of technology - use of new technologies for the degree, different platforms
Discuss move to community based support
Challenges
Facilitators' personal styles - good practice for one may not suit another
Personal bias - of course I think my strategies are the best, otherwise I'd do it differently - important not to judge others, who must think the same of their own strategies.
Interpretations of what constitutes effective community/ individual support
Acknowledgement of all preferences (sampling will not help here as n<30)
Avoid using scales which imply judgement
Keep final summary short, max 600 words
Researchers' views may not be useful, as the issue is about facilitators' workload - but need to test this out. Survey might work with closed questions. Would this be useful data?
Review outcomes
Annual monitoring report
Presentation to team (the approach might have some interest, or maybe just post the conclusions)
Guidelines - no, wrong word, but the review might offer fresh ideas
